Chelmsford is always a vibrant place to visit. With great shops, nightlife and a thriving cultural scene. Not to mention just 30 minutes by train to central London. There’s always something to keep guests at The Atlantic occupied.
Chelmsford’s many local attractions however also offer seasonal events, exhibitions and activities above and beyond their usual itinerary. So, with guests visiting in April in mind, we’ve put together our pick of three such happenings that travellers visiting Chelmsford can enjoy.
Taking place at HM Chelmsford Prison on April 14th, this yearly event (now in its 37th year) sees have-a-go fugitives attempt to get as far away from the prison grounds as possible in a 15-hour time limit. Without the use of money (nor breaking any laws). A team entry costs just £15 and as always all proceeds collected go to charity. Click here for more details
Beginning on April 7th and running until June 17th this free exhibition at the Chelmsford Museum showcases some of local illustrator Candy Joyce’s creative and imaginative artworks. A graduate of Winchester School of Art, Candy’s illustrations (all black and white) are known for their humour, decorative elements, and word play. A great highlight for any illustration or art lovers visiting Chelmsford during April. Click here for more details
For green fingered garden lovers Chelmsford’s RHS Hyde Hall is already a must visit attraction during spring. But this April, the grounds also play host to the Spring Plant Fair, where curious and unusual blooms will be on show and available to purchase from over 30 nurseries across the region. Organised by Essex Plant Heritage, the event will also feature a series of talks across the two-day programme. Which runs from 10am-4pm on April 21st & 22nd. Click here for more details
