3 ways to stay trim in December

Published by Harj Grewal

Christmas is typically a time when even the most steadfastly health conscious, put the brakes on and overindulge a little. And who can blame them? With magic in the air and temptations all around in December, Christmas provides the perfect excuse to ditch the diet and enjoy everything the festive season has to offer. Well, it only happens once a year right?

From mince pies and mulled wine to advent calendars and candy canes, there are so many sweet and delicious treats that go hand in hand with Christmas. So it’s no wonder many of us have to loosen our belts a little once Boxing Day rolls around!

But, for those visiting Chelmsford this December, including our guests staying with us at The Atlantic Hotel, we’ve come up with three ways you can stay in tiptop shape, and still enjoy the delights of Christmas.

  1. Bounce around at Jump Street Chelmsford

Located on Dukes Park Estate, a mere 8 minute drive away Jump Street Chelmsford is open throughout the week until 9pm (7pm Sundays) and plays host to a mixed bag of fun activities. From vertical drop slides that let you experience the full force of gravity at a height of 8m metres, to open trampolining sessions (so much fun), dodge ball tournaments, clip & climb, and so much more.

Prices start at just £10pp for an hour’s trampolining with everyone over the age of 4 permitted. And with trampolining offering the possibility to burn up to 1000 calories in an hour’s session, according to some estimates, not only is it fun, it’s good for you too!

  1. Enjoy a detox juice at Primrose Natural Foods & Juice Bar

If you’ve overindulged on the Christmas spirit(s) the night before, then Primrose on Moulsham Street, is the place to make for, the morning after. This independent health food café and juice bar offers a range of cleansing and detoxifying juices that are made on site daily each day, using sugar-free, organic and vegan friendly ingredients. You can even phone in your order so it’s ready on arrival.

We’re a fan of the Liver Cleanse; apple, lemon, olive oil, garlic, cayenne and ginger, aka the perfect combo to pick you up and put you back together again!

  1. Hit the Boxing Day sales in Chelmsford City Centre

So this might not sound like exercise, but according to experts three hours of shopping can burn off approximately 495 calories, the equivalent of a Big Mac burger at McDonalds. Even two hours’ worth of trotting round the shops can amount to just shy of 300 calories burnt off, the same amount that’s contained in a regular size latte.

But it’s not just your physical wellbeing that benefits from a little turnaround the shops. Finding a bargain actually releases a rush of endorphins, which is great for your mental health too. So there’s definitely merit to hitting those sales on December 26th (providing you actually leave the house and don’t shop online that is)!

The best bit? The Atlantic Hotel is less than a 10 minute walk from the city centre so you can be back for a delicious meal at Sapori or be relaxing with your feet up in no time!
