Chelmsford: The perfect Christmas city break

Published by Harj Grewal

From jazz events and Christmas plays, to ballet beamed in live from Moscow, when it comes to Christmas time in Chelmsford there’s no shortage of things to do, see and experience.

So, if you’re searching for the perfect city break to get you in the Christmas spirit, why not combine a stay at The Atlantic Hotel Chelmsford, with some of the festive goings-on, being hosted in the city during November and December?

HRCC Christmas Fair 2018

Hosted at Chelmsford City Racecourse, the 2018 Helen Rollason Cancer Charity’s Christmas Gift and Food Fair promises to be the biggest and best yet. Along with independent retailers selling a variety of Christmas wares such as jewellery, art, books and toys, the two day event also promises live music throughout the weekend, free on site parking, and a host of hot and cold food and refreshments to tuck into.

Tickets can be purchased from TicketSource for just £5 per person (£4 for OAPS and Students) while under 16s go free. Open 10am until 4pm on Saturday 24th of November, and Sunday 25th.

Christmas Frost Fair at Hylands House 2018

From Friday 30th November to Sunday 2nd December visitors to Chelmsford’s famous Hylands House will be able to experience the annual Christmas Frost Fair, being hosted in Chelmsford for one weekend only. Around 100 exhibitors will be on display, alongside street food offerings, Christmas carols from the choir, and rumour has it even a visit from Santa Claus himself.

Entry to the Frost Fair costs just £6 per person (£4 for concessions) and is free for under 16s. Entry is from 10am – 5pm each day. Tickets are available to purchase at a reduced early bird rate here for a limited time.

Christmas Pantomime: Cinderella

Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a pantomime performance, and this year the Civic Theatre is proud to be presenting its version of Cinderella on stage in Chelmsford. With wicked stepsisters to beloved buttons, the charming prince and of course Cinderella’s very own Fairy Godmother all making an appearance, the panto promises to be an entertaining night out for kids and adults alike.

Performances of Cinderella run daily at The Civic Theatre Chelmsford from November 30th – January 2nd inclusive, with special concession rates for families and schools, as well as January performances. Click here to see the availability and book a ticket.

Light Up The Shire
